Dubox is brought to you by Tokyo, Japan based company popIn Inc [a Japanese subsidiary of Chinese search engine company Baidu]. Your personal data is governed by Japanese law. We are yet to determine whether your data is stored exclusively in Japan or even outside. We have made a query but haven’t received anything from them as of yet.

Dubox is committed to protecting your privacy. They have upload a human readable privacy policy to give information on how they collect, store, process, share and use your information when you use their websites, software, and services.

Is it Free, Does it have any paid plan?

Yes, Dubox is free. It doesn’t cost you anything to backup your files. Its quite impressive that they provide you with a 1TB (1000G) of storage and backup service with no ads and no strings attached. Dubox has built a new service from scratch and has not copied or cloned anything including UI from elsewhere. In first look, it seems original. Although their web interface needs a lot of work as it is not as slick as the competition. It might come across as broken for a few users who do not like to adjust a little bit in order to try a new service. Dubox’s unique selling point is the amount of storage they offer for free. Unlike a few other Chinese services that offer big storage for free, this one is actually promising as it works for everyone.

One thing which is truly insane is that it already offers additional storage for purchase on a subscription basis. This subscription unlocks more features and tools for Paid Accounts. You can upgrade your cloud storage and add paid features to your account. It will automatically bill you from the date you convert a free account to a Paid Account and on each periodic renewal until cancellation period. If you are upgrading to paid plan you need to be extra cautious. You’re responsible for all applicable taxes, and it will charge tax when required to do so. Some countries have mandatory local laws regarding your cancellation rights, and this paragraph doesn’t override these laws.

You are responsible for the timely payment of all fee and you should provid a valid valid credit card or payment method details for the clearance of fees.

What does cancellation period means in Dubox?

Firstly no Refunds will be supported. You may cancel your Paid Account at any time. Refunds are only issued if required by law. Like consider, users living in the European Union have the right to cancel their Paid account subscriptions within 14 days of upgrading to Paid Account. They will repay you no later than 14 days from the day on which Dubox received your cancellation notice by the same means of payment as you used for the transaction. If in case you didn’t pay the fee on time, it will immediately remove your Paid Account features. Your storage will reduce back to 1 TB and if you have used more than 1 TB of storage during this period, you may not be able to create any more backups of your files or use certain features until you have reduced your storage.

Is it viable? Does it provide a better backup?

To begin with, you need to login into Dubox provided by your mail. Once you are in Dubox page you will find a user interface, where you can upload your local files or folders into a cloud storage. As mentioned it provides 1TB of storage, which is marked as a significant highlight of Dubox.

Where does this 1TB storage comes handy? It sure comes handy in quite many cases. Upload all your photos and videos at a good speed (depends on your data sometimes or internet speed), you can categorize your files, like where you want, how you want and you can keep track of the upload progress. Once you upload some file, a pop up box opens up which shows the currently uploading files into cloud storage via local media. There is lot a room where it needs to improve like, supporting media to upload higher quality photos/ videos. Uploading speed is quite good, but you can upload maximum of 300 files per upload.

Uploading files is done, but what’s next? Once you upload you also have to check downloading option as well. Since you might require some file from cloud storage back to local directories. Downloading Photos or documents is piece of cake but real pain occurs when you have to download high quality video. It takes enough time to download a video file, this issue occurred in my case, I hope so it didn’t occurred while you tried. Dubox also proclaims to have some special features in paid version, which are yet to fully explored by us. Since 1TB of storage is more than enough, having an idea to get paid account is quite inappropriate for a new service, in case you need storage above 1TB then exploring paid account could be only option where you might get access to special features.
